

Ruth Emogene Westfall Cunningham, 87, of Nitro, is now at home with her Lord and her God our Savior Jesus Christ as he promised. For those who are saved by acceptance of Christ’s work on the cross to pay our sin debt, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corithians 5:8. She passed away unexpectly on August 22, 2025 at home.
Ruth was born September 28, 1937 and graduated from Poca High School top of her class. She later went on to obtain a Masters degree from WV State College and was only a dissertation short of a Doctoral PHD.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Freda Westfall as well as siblings Charles Westfall, Ruby Groves and Audrey Keener as well as her own sons Charles and Robert Cunningham.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Junior Franklin Cunningham, daughter Teresa Figueroa (Dr. Edmundo), grandson Clinton Kelly (Patricia) and Chris Cunningham and sisters Patsy Williams; Peggy Simms (Mac), Earl Westfall (Patsy),.
She lived her life dedicated to her Lord and Savior pursuing Christian maturity and witnessing of the good news of the gospel whenever and wherever she could for God’s glory.
Celebration of Ruth’s life will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Sept 6, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastors Bobby Goldsberg and Michael Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 12 until time of service at the funeral home.
