He was born in Charleston, to the late Clarence and Wilma Jean Stanley on September 28, 1962. He grew up in Chesapeake and attended East Bank High School. He was retired from Dunbar City Garage where he put in many years of service and memories working along side his father in law James Williams. He was a hard working father who had a deep passion for fishing, hunting, camping, cooking. He always made everyone smile and loved to listen to his music and have himself a few budweisers. To know him was to love him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Terry Stanley, nephew Scott Stanley and one great grandson Isaac Shawn Adkins.
Surviving is his most positive achievement in life whom he constantly bragged about, his two children, James Thomas Stanley (Angie), Amanda Stanley, beloved grandkids, Sheyenne Edens (Seth), Channa Adkins, Jordan Adkins, and two adored great grandchildren,Remi and Kash Edens, sisters Diane and Tammy, and his long time partner Deanne Lawson.
