Virginia "Jenny" Payne went to be with the Lord and her husband, son, mother and sister in heaven on July 6, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jenny was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles "Fred" Payne of Sissonville; their son, Donald Payne; her father, Charles "Crook" Wolfingbarger and mother, Dorothy Wolfingbarger; and sister, Emmalee Wolfingbarger, all of Kanawha County. She is survived by her son, James "Jimmy" Payne and his wife, Rebecca "Beckie" Payne of Sissonville; her sister, Leota Smith and her husband, Herman Smith, of Elkview; her grandson, Jarred Payne, of Sissonville; her grandson, Cody Payne, of Griffithsville; her granddaughter, Brooke Payne, of Sissonville; and her grandson, Tyler Nesbitt, and husband, Travis, of Cross Lanes. She loved her extended family, friends, and especially Dominic Cline and Levi Filsinger. Jenny was born on June 6, 1943 on the same property where her and Fred later built their house by hand and her family still resides. She worked hard her entire life, unconditionally and relentlessly loved her family, and always put others first. She was known by many members of the Sissonville community and spent many years working at B&B Market, One Stop, and other local businesses. She most recently worked at Farmer, Cline, and Campbell Law Firm in Charleston, where she retired after 12 years of dedicated service and with many friends who often say "nobody worked like Jenny". Jenny never let anyone go hungry and was known for her cooking skills, especially her homemade biscuits and gravy, a recipe she was handed down from her mother many years ago. Nobody has been able to even come close to mastering her biscuits. She spent many years making homemade candies and wedding cakes. She loved her home, her yard, her flowers, and her animals. She spent many years with her beloved cat, Rastas, and most recently with her new cat, Lucky - who was indeed lucky to be rescued by her. She made everyone else's cats her own as well, letting Tigris and Oreo in the house and sneaking them ham and cat treats. She loved her dogs, Macy and Miss Ed, and the newest addition to the family, Jasper; as well as the family horse, Sunshine, the many hungry birds who were fed better than some people, and even her fish who she claimed listened to the sound of her voice. Jenny was a special person who touched the lives of countless people, helped everyone she ever met, and was an example of the person we all should strive to be. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm, Friday, July 8, 2016, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, WV, with Dana Reed officiating. Friends may visit from 6:00pm-7:00pm prior to the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ramona, Ashley, and Amy; nurses in the SICU at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
