A resident of Croton since 1994, Antoinette was born in 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, to Minnie Megaro and Frank Talamo, and was the oldest of three children. In 1946 she married Samuel Calandra, and they had two children, Russel and Lola. Antoinette worked for many years as the manager of a candy shop in Chicago, and in 1992 she moved to New York with Lola’s family to help raise her granddaughter, and the family settled in Croton soon after.
Anyone who knew Antoinette was struck by her humor, her intellect, and her enormous heart. A pillar of hope and guidance not only to her family but to her community, Antoinette enjoyed strength and good health into her hundreds. She was a voracious reader with an inspired wit who touched innumerable lives throughout her 101 years. The world was blessed to have her for as long as it did.
Antoinette is survived by her daughter Lola Fine, her son-in-law Marc Fine, her granddaughter Sarah Fine, her grandson Zac Fine, her grandson-in-law Max Halper, and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Savanah, and Mason Fine, and Soren and Sadie Halper. She is predeceased by her husband, Samuel, and her son, Russel.
