Beatriz A. Ahneman
March 21, 1925 – October 4, 2010
Beatriz Ahneman, 85, a Town of Poughkeepsie resident since 2008, formerly of Croton-on-Hudson and Manhattan, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh on Monday, October 4, 2010.
Mrs. Ahneman was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, and prior to moving to Dutchess County a member of St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining.
Born on March 21, 1925 in Bogota, Colombia, she was the daughter of the late Eva (nee Alfonso) and Arnold Foglia. .
On September 24, 1949 in Manhattan, she married Warren J. Ahneman who predeceased her on August 10, 2010. Beatriz and Warren enjoyed travels to many countries in their retirement. Last year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Beatriz was an artist. She studied piano and Spanish dance in her youth and in later years oil painting. She was a member of the Valley Artists Association and valued and enjoyed very much the friends and activities gained through this association. Beatriz was also an avid and talented gardener. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, she encouraged each of them from an early age in the arts.
Mrs. Ahneman is survived by her daughter Carol A. Toufali and husband Mohamed of Wappingers; son Richard G. Ahneman of Ossining; daughter Christine L. Nichols and husband Andrew of Cross River; son Warren C. Ahneman of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren Amrir, Tracey and Sara Toufali and Michael, Brian and Stephanie Nichols. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Geraldine L. Ahneman, M.D. of Peekskill; her uncle Paul Alfonso and wife Bertha of Florida, and their children Vivian and Paul, Jr.
Her children wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and dedication provided by the nurses, doctors, and staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center, of Hospice of Dutchess, and Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 1 Sunrise Lane, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 7-9 pm at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 am, on Friday, October 8th at St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
