

David Matthew Bluestein, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away on September 4, 2025. He was 79 years old. David was born on July 15, 1946 in Peekskill, NY to the late Abraham and Selma (Cohen) Bluestein. Before retirement, he worked for many years as a computer scientist for Philips Research in Briarcliff Manor, NY. And for many years thereafter, he worked as a handyman, finding joy in solving problems and helping his friends and neighbors. He took pride in his work, figuring out the best ways to accomplish handyman jobs.
David was the patriarch of the Bluestein family. He loved and wanted to help his children, driving his daughter to work every day and showing his love through cooking delicious family meals. He measured his success by how good he was to his children, always putting their needs before his own.
He cared deeply about his neighborhood and community, and wanted to contribute positively to them. He always had time to listen and talk to anyone. He had friends from all different walks of life.
He was passionate about heating his house with wood, basketball, music, his pets, writing, politics, art, tinkering, and the town of Croton.
He is survived by his children, Max, Jana, and Abe, his brother in law, Leo, his sister in law, Carol, his cousin, Andrew, his nieces, nephews, their children, and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Abe and Selma, his brothers, Michael and Danny, his sister Ilsa, and his wife, Sara.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th from 2-6pm at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
