

Gregory graduated from Mary Immaculate High School, Ossining, NY class of 1943. Following graduation, during WWII, he served in the US NAVY aboard the USS Barton. Gregory then joined the US ARMY and fought in the Korean War. He retired with the rank of Colonel from the ARMY. He was a longtime volunteer firefighter with the Washington Hook & Ladder Co. in Ossining. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion.
In 1948, Gregory married the love of his life, Helen Marie Sullivan. Gregory and Helen settled in Ossining where they raised their three sons. They were married for 59 years before Helen’s passing in 2008.
Gregory has three sons: Gregory Anthony, Jr. and his wife Marcia, Stephen and his wife Jacquelyn, and Paul and his wife Kathy. He has 7 grandchildren: Christi Hendershot (Thomas), Gregory Tavano (Petra), Jared Tavano, Jenna Ferris (Kevin), Stacey Chambers (Jared) Hollis Roberts (Joshua), and Jason Tavano.
Gregory has 10 great grandchildren: Owen, Carter & Ethan Hendershot, Robert & Evan Ferris, Abigail & Isabelle Chambers, Lennon Roberts, and Samuel Tavano.
He has four siblings: Frank Tavano predeceased, Marion Tavano predeceased, June Ferrusi of Cortlandt Manor, and Dolores Frustace (John) of Montrose. He has many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10am on Saturday, July 17th at St. Augustine Church, Ossining, NY with burial to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery also in Ossining.
