Iain was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on May 31, 1953, to Elizabeth (Murray) and Nathaniel Morrison. The family emigrated to the United States and settled in Huntington, New York, where Iain graduated from Walt Whitman High School. An avid music fan, Iain was a self-taught bass guitar player who performed with local legends the Fabians and the Mosquitos. Playing in rock ‘n’ roll bands was a constant in Iain’s life throughout his career as a photo researcher at the Bettmann Archive, Corbis, and Scholastic Inc. He married Molly (Reeve) in 1990, and the couple settled in Westchester County; first in Peekskill and then in Croton-on-Hudson, where they raised their daughter Julia. In addition to his extensive record and CD collection, Iain saved every book he ever read (and there were many) and built a collection of British buses and an HO scale model train set. Known for his careful attention to detail, steel trap memory, and wry sense of humor, Iain was thoughtful, caring, and unfailingly loyal to those he loved.
The family welcomes all who knew Iain to visit them at their home in Croton to share memories on Saturday, March 16, 12 - 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity in his name are encouraged.
