

John Thomas Sekelsky, 94 of Warrenton, VA formerly of Croton on Hudson, NY passed away on September 29, 2017. John was born to Andrew and Anna Sekelsky on April 1, 1923 in Johnsonburg, PA. John was an artist, enthusiastic accordionist, and avid photographer. He flew combat missions as a B-17 radio operator in the US Army Air Corps 487th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force from April 1943 until October 1945 during WWII. He was active in his bomb group reunions and attended veterans’ activities in Croton and Warrenton. He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus at Holy Name of Mary Church, and he volunteered with Scouting and Salvation Army fundraising. He was honored as the Knights of Columbus Man of the Year in 2010.
John is survived by his loving children Robert (Cheryl), Anne, Andrew, David, Alan (Diane), cherished grandchildren Alec, Ellie, and Ian, and by his sister Annette. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsie (Elizabeth Hamilton) Sekelsky in November 1995.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Honor Flight (honorflight.org), which transports America’s Veterans to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10:30am at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand St., Croton on Hudson, NY with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery also in Croton.
