Michael J. Calcutti Jr, a lifelong resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away in his home on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the age of 89. Michael was born on August 7,1932, to the late Michael and Nora (Tedrick) Calcutti in Ossining, NY. He married the love of his life Theresa Calcutti (Lena) on September 16, 1956. Mike served in the United States Navy from 1952-1956. Then he worked many years for the Highway Department for the Village of Croton where he retired. Mike served as Chief of Croton Fire Department from 1978-1980, where he was a life member 64 years, a member of American Legion Fox Eklof post 505, Westchester/Putnam Fire Police Association, Croton Ex-Chiefs association and life member of the Croton Yacht Club.
In 1952, Mike enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was Machinist Mate 3rd class on the USS Hyman. After his return home, he married Theresa and moved into their home on Hudson St. in Croton, which was his Grandfather's home and has remained in the family since. This is where they built their family and raised their three children. Mike joined the Croton Fire department- Croton Fire Patrol No. 1 in 1958 and advanced through the ranks until being voted in as Chief of the Department in 1978. After retiring from the Village of Croton, he continued to Volunteer with the Croton Fire Dept and enjoyed traveling with his son and brother. Many years of hunting and enjoying the family cabin in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed his trips to the casinos. Mike enjoyed attending his Navy Reunions and reminiscing of his Navy years. Mike was a caring, dedicated father who enjoyed having an active role in his children’s lives. He enjoyed being Grandpa, attending every event he could and laughing and joking with them all. His life was full when his little Chrissy (Christopher) came into his life.
Mike is survived by his loving daughters and son Michelle, Stephen, and Tina, his daughter in law Lorna (Stephen), brother Patrick (Estelle), adored grandchildren Kenneth (Danny), Heather, Missy, and Marissa, and cherished great grandchild Christopher. He also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as many who called him Dad /Uncle Mike.
He was predeceased by his wife Theresa Calcutti and his sister Angela Rhodes.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY, 10520. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 8 at 10:30AM at St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining, NY. Interment will be private.
