Born on October 19th, 1934, in the Bronx, Nick was a kind and selfless man who loved God, his family, and his friends above all else. Nick’s heart was the biggest around, always helping those in need, especially his family.
He married the love of his life - his wife Patricia, on October 15th, 1955, after meeting her and falling in love while attending a local dance in NYC. Their love story spanned over seven decades and withstood the test of time, a true testament to his unwavering devotion, honor, and Catholic faith. Together they shared a son, James, whom they both loved with all their hearts.
Throughout the years Nick earned a number of degrees, including his Master’s degree, which he was very proud of. He attended the New York Institute of Technology, SUNY ESF Ranger School, and SUNY Maritime; never one to shy away from advancing his knowledge, improving his skills, and furthering his education.
He held several careers in his lifetime, most notably as a NYPD Sargeant, serving twenty years with the police department – the fourth generation of Walsh men to do so. He was affectionately known as “Footsie” amongst his colleagues, and he fulfilled his duties as an officer with immense pride. He also served as Director of Security for a number of companies including Walsh Trucking and the NYS Lottery, which would ultimately lead to the formation of his own company – Mobile Shredding Corporation of NY, NJ, and CT. An avid entrepreneur and innovator at heart, Nick (and Pat’s) company was the first-ever mobile document destruction company in the world – an achievement that warranted countless news articles, television appearances, and notable clients.
Nick enjoyed many hobbies in his life, but he especially loved sailing on the Hudson River on his boat “Breathnac”, a nod to his Irish heritage. He was a long-time member of Shattemuc Yacht Club in Ossining, NY, with his wife Pat; and passed along his love of sailing (and nature) to his granddaughter, Lisa.
Nick is survived by his wife of seventy years, Pat, of Hermitage, PA; his son, Jim, daughter-in-law, Susan, and grandson, James, of Chestertown, NY; his granddaughter, Lisa (Matthew), and great-granddaughters, Chloe and Sophie, of Hermitage, PA; and his granddaughter, Erin, and great-grandson Julian, of Walden, NY.
Viewing will be held at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, on Friday, February 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at his longtime parish (where he faithfully served as an usher), Holy Name of Mary, in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, on Saturday, February 28th at 10 am. Internment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Those who he leaves behind find comfort in knowing we will all be reunited again someday.
