Patsy was born in Harlem to Domenica and Salvatore Orzo on December 16, 1917. He grew up with six sisters. He was an ambitious teenager, who was never without a job. His free time was spent playing his favorite sport basketball. Patsy attended Textile High School in Chelsea and St. John’s University in Brooklyn. He graduated with a degree in accounting and worked as an auditor for several accounting firms over the years. Later in life, he went back to school and became a Certified Public Accountant. He married Eileen Backoff on April 23, 1944 at St. Benedict’s Church in the Bronx, and enjoyed 63 years of married life. Patsy served in the National Guard and was a member of the Boy’s Club of NY and the Knight’s of Columbus. He was a board member of R.A.I.N., which served the elderly in the Bronx and northern Manhattan. He volunteered his time at Bronx State and Calvary Hospitals. He was a very generous and prayerful man, giving freely of his time to many charities. Patsy was an active member of St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx, where he ended his career as an administrative assistant to the pastor. Upon moving to Croton, he enjoyed being a member of the Croton Seniors and attending the Croton Caring Committee’s monthly luncheons.
Patsy was predeceased by his wife Eileen on February 6, 2008 and his sisters Lucy Rinaldi, Jessie Falso , Connie Krlic, Anna Dercole and Mary Gluberman.
He is survived by his son Dennis Orzo and his wife Joyce of New Rochelle; his daughters Cathy Higgins and her husband Tim of Croton-on-Hudson, and Deborah Berni of Stamford, Conn.; his sister Gloria Casilli of Orangeburg, NY; five grandchildren: Michael, Tracey (Ago), Mandy, Daniel, Thomas (Jennifer), James (Dana); and four great grandchildren: Angelo, Lillian, Kathleen and Charlotte.
Viewing will be at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand St. , Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, 10:30 at Holy Name of Mary Church.
