With Thanksgiving coming up, I'm reminded of the year that Stephanie was determined to make a proper Thanksgiving dinner for Jim's mother, then living alone in Cooperstown, New York. They loaded the turkey with all the fixings for the 3-4 hour drive to create a lovely holiday for her. And then last year, in the midst of physical difficulties, she was determined to make a proper Thanksgiving feast at home.
Maybe her real motto was: "Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead."

One thing in particular stands out in my mind about Stephanie. When my wife's mother, my mother-in-law as well as Stephanie's,  was in Hampshire House (assisted living facility) in Upstate NY, I wrote a piece about the wonderful people and the great care Mrs. Bourdon was receiving at that facility. I wanted to acknowledge the people there for there kindness and care. 

To my surprise, Stephanie sent me an acknowledgement for having written this piece. I was floored. I didn't expect anyone to even know that I had written this acknowledgement.

But, Stephanie had found my comments on their website. Needless to say, I was very touched by her response to my comments. Most times, your expressions fall into the Great Void. But, Stephanie noticed. I was blown away.

Our hearts go out to you, Jim, and all the family. Stephanie was always at the center of family celebrations, at home in Croton and upstate, ad-libbing at Jesse and Jillian's wedding, and at so many other gatherings.
BUT the memory that stands out for us was at Jim and Steph's Orthodox wedding ceremony when they knelt before the priest and he tied their heads together with a ribbon to symbolize a future of two as one. It was all Jim could do not to giggle, but Stephanie tried to keep the moment dignified.
