Thomas Emmett Curtin, of Cortlandt Manor, NY, passed away on November 5th. Born on August 27, 1946, in Danbury, Connecticut, Tom was the beloved son of the late Thomas Curtin Sr. and Dorothea Melvin Curtin.
Tom married the love of his life, Eileen Barry Curtin, on September 20, 1975. The couple met as neighbors after each purchased condos in Ridgefield, CT, a chance encounter that blossomed into a fifty-year marriage filled with laughter, love, and adventure. Their honeymoon in Greece marked the beginning of a lifelong affection for travel; together they circled the globe twice. Tom and Eileen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year by taking a return trip to Greece where they began their married life with a sailing cruise of the Greek Isles which marked the beginning of a lifelong interest in travel and where they would return for their final destination together.
Tom enjoyed a 40-year career with IBM, where he began as a chemical engineer, held various management positions, and later served as a client consultant in IBM’s Advanced Management Center where he worked with senior executives of prominent corporations on strategic applications of technology to advance their business priorities. Tom’s sharp intellect, integrity, and collaborative spirit earned him the respect and friendship of many colleagues throughout the years.
As a youngster Tom was fascinated by trains, an interest that would become one of the great pleasures of his life. He was a financial advisor of the Housatonic Railroad Corporation and belonged to several railroad clubs, where he and his colleagues created historic replicas of historically accurate locations and model trains, painting and crafting these detailed replicas with great care and artistry.
A gifted orator, Tom often joked that his brother, Jim, had all the talent and skills in athletics and he was blessed with a gift for public speaking and the “gift of gab.’” His warmth, humor and great storytelling could lift up any room.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen; his brother, James Curtin and his wife, Jeanette and his nephews, Sean T. Curtin and Christopher J. Curtin. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, and his enduring love for his family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10th, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, Connecticut.
