Cornelia Lapsins, 92, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 18th, 2022, after spending her last days surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by Alfreds Lapsins, her loving husband of 53 years, and her 2 brothers, Heinz-Eugen and Herbert.
Cornelia was born February 21, 1930 in Dortmund, Germany. As a young adventurous woman, she moved to the United States to work as a lab technician. It was in Rockford, IL where she met and married Alfreds. They moved to Cary, IL and were one of the first residents of Oakwood Hills where they enjoyed living on Silver Lake for over 50 years.
Cornelia was an amazing Mom and Oma and was also loved dearly by her friends and neighbors, who called her Tante. She will be remembered with warmth for so many things but above all else, she will be remembered for her enduring kindness which never left her. She will also be remembered for her Christmas cookies that she baked every year, for the warm slippers, mittens and scarfs that she knit, for her vibrant, beautiful gardens, and for the deep love she held for the home she built with her husband. She took time to celebrate little moments and worked hard to make every holiday extra special.
Cornelia is survived by her daughters, Cora Groble, Inga (Rob Wiggers) Lapsins, and Anita (Rusty) Smith; and her grandchildren, Corinne, Ellen, Billy, Kylie, Kelsey, Keaton, Lukas, and Marieke.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, January 16, 2022, at the chapel at Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S Rawson Bridge Rd, Cary, IL 60013. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to make donations for a memorial bench may send them to Cora Groble, 708 Exmoor Ave, Barrington, IL 60010.
