

She was born on October 7, 1926 in Akron Ohio to Clifford and Nell Spencer in Akron, Ohio. On December 20, 1947 she married John "Jack" Powell and shared a wonderful life together for 63 years until his passing in 2011. Jack and Dorothy spent time in various cities in Ohio, Woodstock, IL and finally at her present home in Algonquin.
She leaves behind her devoted children, John C Powell of Woodstock, Kathy Crook of Cary. In addition are her grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Hopkins of Woodstock, Megan (Ladd) Hendrickson of Woodstock and Jonathan (Elizabeth) Powell of Woodstock and Courtney Crook of Los Angeles, CA. Survivors also include eight great-grandchildren, Aurora and Annabelle Hopkins, Makenna, Nolan, Mya, and Sawyer Hendrickson, and Jack and Logan Powell; her sister, Diane (Larry) Peters of Corona, CA; brother-in-law, Robert (Roberta) Powell of Dayton, OH; sister-in-law, Elaine Powell of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death in by her great-grandson, Brayden Spencer Powell.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time, especially her sister Diane who was able to be with her in her final weeks, JourneyCare Hospice and Pastor Greg Lucas of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Services and interment are private with Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home.
