Everybody Loved Gail
With affection, joy, and sadness we remember a life well-lived. Gail was born in Detroit MI to Jean and Bill and grew up fishing, playing football and basketball, and working his way through school in his parent’s saloon. He graduated from Fordson High School in 1951 and received a BSME from General Motors Institute in 1956. He earned an MBA from Wayne State University in 1965 and worked as a Mechanical Engineer throughout a successful 50 year career. He married Barbara Nielsen in 1957 and had 4 beautiful children whom he adored.
At 73, he retired to a life of travel, adventure, and spending time with his family. He made 3 trips across the country on Route 66, two of them with his grandsons, in his Mustang convertible. He loved collecting, and anyone who visited him could identify his passion for ducks (decoys) and old movie posters, particularly westerns and film noir. Gail was also a talented photographer, avid golfer, and joyful dancer. He enjoyed the outdoors and skied with his family until he was 80 years old.
Throughout his life he exemplified kindness, grace, and charm, with a clever wit, easy laugh, and a kind word for everyone. No matter the challenge, to Gail the ‘glass was always half full’.
He is survived by his sons Gregg (Gayle) Yauch, and Jeff (Greg White) Yauch, daughters Lisa (Peter) Cadden, Lori Yauch, and three grandchildren Erik Yauch, Jessica Lowry, and Jack Cadden. He will be remembered fondly by his extended family, many friends, and any who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.QuerhammerandFlagg.com for the Yauch family.
