Georgine Jewell

Georgine (Hand) Jewell, 62, of Crystal Lake, IL, has passed away peacefully in her home on April 10th, 2026. She was raised in Mount Prospect, Illinois and eventually moved to Crystal Lake in her early 20’s where she lived the rest of her life.

Georgine was born at Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, Illinois, to Dolores and James Hand on February 26th, 1964. She graduated from Hersey High School and later attended the University of Illinois and studied Agricultural Science. She would later work at Home State Bank in Crystal Lake, Illinois, through the 90s’ and then at Ed Assist/Bright Horizons as a Compliance Coordinator for 15 years.

Georgine was married to Robert Jewell for nearly 38 years. They met in the summer of 1986 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. After dating for 2 years they deciding to get married in 1988 at St.Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois. For nine years of their marriage they loved to try new restaurants, play cards and tennis with friends, and travel to many places such as Vermont, Alaska, and Jamaica. After enjoying time with each other, they decided to start a family and had 3 children: Veronica, Constance, and James. They were the light in Georgine’s eyes. As a family, they spent every summer on the 4th of July at their lake cabin in northern wisconsin, which was one of Georgine’s favorite places.

One of the most important things to Georgine in her life was her family. Her husband and children gave her the strength and courage to battle breast cancer every day. She always kept in touch with her many nieces and nephews, brother, sisters, and in-laws and her connection with these people was what gave her the greatest joy in life. Georgine also had a passion for movies, TV shows, music, and most importantly, her K-Dramas. She had an immense knowledge of many different topics, an excellent memory, and could beat anyone at a game of cards.

For almost 11 years, Georgine battled breast cancer. She was initially diagnosed in 2015, and after a brief remission, she was rediagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in the fall of 2019. There was not a single day that she gave up on that battle. During this time she was a friend to many other people receiving chemo-therapy, as well as the nurses that were around her. She never hesitated to make a new friend no matter who they were.

Georgine is survived by her loving husband, Robert Jewell; her children Veronica Jewell, Constance Jewell, and James Jewell; her siblings James (Nancy) Hand, Sue Ellen Fontana, Victoria (Kevin) Prendergast, and Janet Hand; her nieces and nephews Micheal (Megan) Fontana, Amanda (Brandon) Cummons, Kevin (Brianna) Prendergast, Anthony Fontana, Melissa (Tim) Muldowney, Emily (Brandon) Coxen, Megan (Kyle) Loux, Jennifer Hand, Elizabeth Prendergast, Emma Jewell, Olivia Jewell, Bridget Jewell, and Katie Jewell; and her in laws Sue (Gary) Hoebel, Richard (Heather) Jewell, Robert Jewell Sr., and Eleanor Jewell. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Dolores Hand, and her brother-in-law Mike Fontana.

Georgine will be dearly missed and was well loved by friends, family, and neighbors alike. Our memories of her will be filled with laughter, treasured moments, and the warmth of her presence.
