Hildegard Vogelsang, age 87, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. She was born on Saturday, February 19, 1938 in Neudorf, Poland, to Ludwig & Adele (Rapp) Kupski. Her family survived World War II and came to the US after a 5 year wait in 1954 with the help of the Lutheran Church and relatives in Michigan. The family moved to Chicago for more work opportunities. She left school after 8th grade and went straight to work full time as a live in maid and nanny. She worked hard to help provide for her family, so that her siblings would be able to stay in school. In 1957, Hildegard went to a German dance, where she met the love of her life, George Vogelsang. They married shortly after, on June 29, 1957. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising her 3 children, Carl, Hildegard & Nancy, and helping start the family business from the basement of their home. In 1968, they moved to a farm in Crystal Lake and built a brand new factory in town. Hildegard and George worked hard to make their business a success and enjoyed living on their farm (having both come from farming families). Once she became a "Oma" (grandma in German), and later an Uroma to Brynn, she was just as devoted to them as she had been to her kids.
Hildegard loved to be surrounded by her family and extended family. Everyone was invited every weekend to the farm to spend time in the country, barbequing, picnicking, hiking, and any number of activities that you could do in the open space. She was an incredible cook and baker. She was famous for her ORANGE TORTE and BANANA CAKE. She enjoyed swimming and doing water aerobics in her later years. Hildegard got to see the world, travelling with her siblings everywhere from Alaska to the Caribbean, on cruises and journeys back to Deutschland! She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, the glue holding her family together with love and understanding. Hildegard was loved by so many. Even during her stay at Valley Hi, she was blessed to have many visitors, her relatives and neighbors coming to spend time with her and make her smile. She will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege to have her in their lives.
Hildegard is survived by her children, Carl Vogelsang, Hildegard (Dennis) Klagues, & Nancy Vogelsang; her grandchildren Christopher, Breanna, & Timothy; her great-granddaughter Brynn; her siblings Arnold Kupski of Phoenix, Arizona, Hedwig "Hedy" Beer & Lillie Richardson; her brother-in-law Adam Wambach; and numerous nieces & nephews, including those in Germany.
Hildegard is preceded in death by her husband George Vogelsang; her parents Ludwig & Adele Kupski; her sister Helmtraut "Helen" Wambach; her sister-in-law Hedwig Mayer; her brothers-in-law Jim Richardson & Karl Beer; along with in-laws in Deutschland.
