He was born August 6, 1929 in Alden to William and Minnie (Schnacker) Sternberg. He worked for 26 years for the Village of Algonquin. He was a true outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting in his younger days. He also had fun while throwing horseshoes. He took great pleasure in joking around with servers at the restaurants he frequented. Most of all Howard loved to be around his family and friends. He truly loved life.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Ralph) Morris, Leora (J. Cruz) Ornelas, Marvin (Angie) Sternberg, and Tami Sternberg; his grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lyle, Marie, and Helen.
A memorial visitation will be from 10am to 11am on February 8, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The memorial service will be at 11am.
