

He was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Woodstock, to Floyd and Hazel (Thompson) Sherman. On May 9, 1964, he married Sharry Harvell in Woodstock.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-63. He was a retired Union glazier. He selflessly cared for his wife for 18 years after a car accident. He taught his children the meaning of love by his example and would give the shirt off his back. He was a sports enthusiast who loved bowling, golf and especially the Cubs. According to his grandson, he was a sports almanac.
Survivors include his wife, Sharry; a son, James S. Sherman; two daughters, Laura Batzer and Kristie (Brad) Schuller; five grandchildren, Marie Teller, Meggie (Patrick) Kwiatkowski, Joshua Batzer, Nick Schuller and Sharry Schuller; and his siblings, Ruth (Ralph) Hunt, Bill Urch and Evelyn Jarrett; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lee (Jane) Harvell, Jack Harvell, Melba Lang, Bev Englebrecht, Linda (Bill) Deates, Toni (Ray) Buzbee, and Teri (Larry) Tipton; many nieces and nephews; and a dear family friend, Inge Twaddle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean Mueller; and two brothers, Harold and Glenn Sherman.
The visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Inurnment will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to go out for a burger and beer to remember and talk about Jim.
