

He was born November 8, 1925 in Chicago, the son of Edgerton and Anna (Goethling) Nix.
He was a graduate of St. Anne High School, IL in 1944. Upon graduation, John entered the Navy and fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war ended, John returned to Illinois and married Dorothleen Sterrenberg on October 14, 1946. John worked for the Chicago Tribune for 42 years.
Upon retirement, John and Dorothleen moved to Arizona. Both John and Dorothleen were active members of the Willowbrook United Methodist Church. John was also a volunteer at the Boswell Hospital where he earned an award for over 3,900 hours of service.
John returned to Illinois in 2010 and lived at the Hearthstone Manor.
Survivors include his children: Penny (Jay) Pelkey of Crystal Lake, Bill (Coleen) Nix of Schaumburg, and Katherine (Jim) Neath of Chesterton, IN. His grandchildren: Susan (Dave) Bohn, Doug Nix, Cheryl Nix, Heather (Jason) Spiewak, Michael Neath, Valerie Neath, and great granddaughter, Clara Spiewak.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothleen in 2004, and all of his siblings.
A private memorial service for the family will be held. Inurnment will be in Arizona.
