John Otis White, 82, of Hebron, IL passed away on September 4th, 2021. He was born on February 6th, 1939 to the late Orville and Marie White in Baton Rouge, LA. He married Marion (Norman) White June 12, 1959 in Centralia, IL.
John graduated from Centralia Township High School class of 1958 then earned his degree at the University of Illinois. John retired from Motorola (30 years) and later worked for the City of Crystal Lake, Harvard School District 50 and the Pioneer Center in McHenry. John served six years in the U.S. Navy and is a Vietnam Veteran. John enjoyed collecting Civil War memorabilia, working on his family tree and writing a book on the family military history. John belonged to Grace Fellowship Church in Woodstock, Grace Baptist Church in Carpentersville, was a member of the Lake in the Hills American Legion Post 1231 since 1988 serving 22 years as the Finance Officer and 21 years as the Baseball Chairman. John has also served or was a member of the VFW, Carpentersville Parks and Recreation Board, Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Board, McHenry County Ethics Commission (Chairman), election judge in Kane and McHenry Counties, Northern Illinois Selective Service Commission and spent 15 years teaching flag history and etiquette to 5th grade classes in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.
John is survived by his wife Marion, his children Jeffrey (Colleen) White, Brad (Susie) White, Christin (Joe) Risteca and Lindsay (Mark) Mogan. His sisters Nancy Wessling and Linda Slater. Grandchildren Jeremy Trotter, Mallory (Lou) Taglia, Stephanie White, Courtnie Taylor, Justin Somen, Haileigh (Michael) Haugh and Rylie Mogan and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Ballantini and granddaughter Whitney White.
There will be a visitation from 11am to the Noon memorial service on Saturday, October 2 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion, 1101 W Algonquin Rd, Lake in the Hills, IL 60156.
