Karen M. Duggan

Karen Mae Duggan of McHenry, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 79. She was born on October 21, 1944 in Chicago, IL. and grew up in the Portens Subdivision of Island Lake. She graduated from Wauconda High School and went on to become the beloved Avon lady in the Island Lake area for over 40 years! She was often compared to Shirley Temple because of her beauty, dimples, curls and kindness.

Karen was a devout Christian woman with a faithful heart. She was very active in her church, Calvary Assembly of God in Crystal Lake, and attended regular Bible study at Wonder Lake Bible Church. In addition to her love of God, she also loved to have fun in the sun with her husband of nearly 60 years, William. They would regularly visit their home away from home near Gulf Shores, Alabama, and traveled many other beautiful locations together.

Karen also had an active social life anywhere she went. She was a long time member of TOPS and other motivational groups throughout the years. She enjoyed Bingo and theatrical shows with music and dancing. Karen was also very creative and loved to make memories with her family by crafting things together. Her love language was gifting and would often give gifts with great meaning.

Karen is survived by her husband, William; sister Doretta (DJ) Wojciechowski and brother Joseph Maxwell; two daughters Kelly (Andres) Ibarra and Mindy (Shawn) Magisen; seven grandchildren Fallynn (Steve) Nell, Mallory Magisen, Andres (Ali) Ibarra, Mitchell Magisen, Marium Ibarra, Miranda Magisen, and Kala Ibarra; and eight great-grandchildren Damon Fornear, Macie Egan, Zooey Nell, Steven Nell, Jr., Gavin Nell, Mason Kman, Ronin Nell, and Jaxon Kman.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother Loretta; mother Laverne; and brothers Dean and David.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 6th from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home in Crystal Lake. Funeral service at Noon with burial to follow at Windridge Cemetery in Cary.
