It is impossible to believe you have been gone for over a year.
I think of you so often. 
I think of Wendy and your Family and wonder how the void you  left 
Can ever be healed.
Your Family cannot be whole again. Our Family is missing our sixth 
Sibling.
You were so brave in dying. You never let us mourn you while you were living. I think you put on a positive air to keep us hopeful.
You knew what was coming, and handled yourself with grace, faith and love. You showed us all how to die.

I miss everything about you. Your voice, laugh, how you answered the phone, Yellow. You protected me my whole childhood. Took me to the park, pulled a sled up the big hill to Mt, Greenwood to buy  a 45 of California Dreaming.
I still love that song.
You died how you lived. Generous, kind, faithful, loving, non judgmental, and interested in everyone.

My condolences to Wendy and Family!! 

I was heartbroken today to hear about Larry’s passing. I worked with Larry at CCH for 15 years. Those early years we didn’t get along, mainly because I was not a very good employee! I was just out of high school and had a lot to learn! As the years went by he taught me so much about the job, integrity and not to take crap from others! Larry wasn’t easy on me,  I’d work on something, he would look at it and tell me to do it better! I thought “this this guy hates me,” but I eventually realized that wasn’t the case at all. It was because he believed in me and knew I wasn’t giving it my all. He brought out the best in me and gave me the confidence I desperately needed. He was my mentor and friend! Larry will always have a special place in my heart! The world lost another good one! 

Larry I hope you are sitting down with JMD and laughing over a cup of coffee!

So sorry to hear of Larry’s passing.  He was a wonderful friend and co worker of mine at CCH/WK.  He will be greatly missed.

My earliest memories of Larry are of me being mad at him. It wasn't anything he did, I was just really young and was used to thinking that if I saw a tall man with thinning hair and a Tom Selleck mustache that it must be my dad, and I was mad when it wasn't.

When I was a little bit older, I remember thinking it was so cool the time Larry gave us a tennis racket as a gift. It absolutely blew my mind, because I never thought of myself or my brothers as "tennis racket"-people. We didn't even really know what to do with it. Trying to figure it out must've looked like the opening scene to 2001: A Space Odyssey.  We ended up breaking it a few months later...by having a baseball home-run-contest with it.

But the tennis racket stuck with me as how I remember Larry. He would explain a sport, or a story, or a restaurant or vacation spot while talking to my dad because he loved the idea of a shared experience. These sports, stories, events, brought something out of him, and he wanted to share that with those he loved. Hearing him describe a story made you wanna read it, describing a place made you want to go there, describing a sport made you wanna play it. And if you never got the chance (say if your tennis racket broke in a game of baseball), at least you had the story from Larry, the opportunity to see it through his eyes.

In high school I played tennis all four years. Prior to that, I had hit a tennis ball with a racquet once and it was while visiting Larry and his family. Larry tried to teach me the basics, but being as young as I was, I just wanted to see how far I could hit the ball. Around my junior year of high school, we visited Larry more; this time I was able to show him that I could actually hit the ball within the lines.


I don't think my parents had a lot of expendable income when I was growing up. But as a kid, my life was rich with the simple joys kids love - trips to the park, riding through sprinklers on our bikes, and sometimes even, a trip to 7-11 for a Slurpee. My dad loved these things and understood that being a dad meant spending time with us. And he did. 

He coached our soccer teams and did laundry. He taught us how to ride bikes and read books. He let us get filthy outside and taught all of us how to use a paintbrush and mow the lawn. He tucked us in.

 Today as a parent myself I realize how joyful these times are but difficult as well. Working full time with a tough commute must have been exhausting. To his credit, we were oblivious. Instead, we just felt loved and cared for and excited every day when he came home. 

After we were grown, my dad traded a few of his younger man exploits in, but some remained the same. Not a natural plumber or electrician, he still taught himself how to fix most of what went wrong in the house. His love of parks remained and we knew that when he suggested, "a short walk around the block," we might possibly be gone for hours. And if you were going to be regaled with a story, you probably needed to sit, because he was going to take a meandering route in his telling of it. 

All of this sounds extra rosy, and of course my dad had his faults, but he worked hard to be a good parent, a role he took seriously. His life has taught me that life doesn't need to be perfect to be perfect. It just needs time together and a cold Slurpee once in a while


Anyone familiar with Larry knows what a caring, intelligent, creative and hard-working man he was. 
I was lucky to have spent our childhood together. We were only two years apart so between us we had a wide group of friends and much of our time revolved around Kennedy Park playing sports and swimming. We played together in the house often making up our own games. We worked together at a local steakhouse and at a bookstore for years. Larry made it easy to be his brother and his friend. 
Larry touched so many lives- his family always came first. Larry felt strongly about giving his children and then grandchildren his time, attention and energy. 

Dad was the best. I remember thinking as a kid, that my Dad was the strongest Dad.  He was the protector, the one that made us feel safe, cherished and he was dependable to a fault. He often put his needs last and I think that was not only because of his love of being a Dad but because he had such a strongly held belief that family is the most important thing in the world. Taking care of his family was truly his North star. He was an example of hard work and grit, integrity, and that there was always a right thing to do. He had a silly side too, and  could also be loveably dorky and playful and I think that was why he was blessed with so many kids and grandkids.  Dad was also very compassionate. He had the biggest heart and there were times where I felt like not one human on earth understood me the way my Dad did. I think he made all his kids feel like that, even as adults, loved, safe, heard, and understood.  One of the most cherished ways he showed love was showing absolute interest in your life, feelings, experiences. 
Dad, I will miss our honest conversations, our walks,  our hugs, me trying to make you laugh, teasing you about your ear hair or Dad shoes.  I feel the loss of you in my heart, but I will try to honor you by living by the lessons you taught me. In difficult situations, Ill try to always do the right thing  even if it's the hard thing and I'll cherish my family the way you cherished yours.

My beloved cousin Larry's life was like a diamond; one facet that we shared was our majoring in English. In the 1970's, armored in plaid shirts and blue jeans, we oft repaired to 111th Street's Ye Olde Times to discuss a recently read book, channeling Addison and Steele's
 Enlightenment admonition to take philosophy out of schools and into bars. From the 7 June 1711 Spectator, Larry,  this Horace quote is for you: "Interdum speciosa locus, moratque recte Fabula nullius Veneris, sine pondere et arte, Valdius oblectat populum, meliusque  moratur, Quam  versus inopes rerum, nugaque canorae".

There was no better man than Larry.
His loss will be great and  one felt for all times.
I know your hearts are broken.
May GOD hold you all in the palm of his hand.
We pray for your healing.
We pray your memories comfort you in the future.
We are forever grateful Larry was our brother, brother in law and Uncle.
