Liv Thomseth Schweigert, 85, of Cary passed away Friday November 5, 2010. She was born November 23, 1924 in Trondheim, Norway to Sverre A. and Nanna D. Thomseth. The family immigrated to America in 1926, first living in Oak Park and later moving to Aurora. In 1932, during the depression years, they returned to Norway. In 1937, the family returned to America settling again in Aurora. She graduated from West Aurora High School in 1942, a member of the National Honor Society.
She was employed as Office Manager of the former Finch & McCullough printing firm for 21 years. She was an avid bowler and served as the Secretary of the Aurora Woman’s bowling Association for several years and entered into the AWBA Hall of Fame.
On April 22, 1967 she married Kenneth Schweigert. They moved to Crystal Lake in 1969 where she worked in her husband’s custom home construction business-Kenco Enterprises. She also worked in accounting at Crystal Valley RV and Coilcraft. Prior to her retirement in January 2007 she was employed by the Algonquin Township Assessor’s office for 16 years.
She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, the Vesterheim Genealogical Society and a life member of Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Iowa. She was instrumental in forming Fjordland Lodge #5-606, Sons of Norway in McHenry, of which she was a charter member and served as its president for 4 years.
She is survived by her son Brett Erik Schweigert (Kristin Linnea); grandchildren Justin Erik, Jason Matthew, and Kaitlin Linnea of Olive Branch, Miss; cousins, nieces and nephews in both the US and Norway. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kenneth on September 20, 2002.
Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 10th at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. Crystal Lake. The Rev. Roger W. Schneider will officiate. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
