Although physical ailments, an inoperable hip, and a multitude of heart problems hindered her, she never let it stop her from living an active life. She touched many people’s lives with her wit and a touch of sarcasm.
Her husband, Patrick Lester, passed away in 1995 but they spent their last years together living it up in Las Vegas. After over 36 visits there, she knew all there was to know about video gambling.
For the past 38 years, she spent summers in Minocqua, WI at her Squaw Lake home. She loved nature and waking up with our resident eagle each morning. She made sure she helped paint the house this summer from her scooter.
Lola said she was never a “must-have” kind of person. She adored her family unity, lunch with the Schurz girls, and the Bears games on Sunday with the gang. Lola made a mean chop-suey, and usually set off the fire alarm when she cooked.
She spent much of her free time volunteering and helping those in need. She was a lifelong caregiver for her only sibling, Dennis Deane, who suffered with spina bifida from birth.
Lola was a beleaguered, die-hard Cubs fan her entire life, as is the rest of the family.
She will truly be missed by her daughters, Veronica (John Bernard) Lester, Desiree Sheppard, and Chimae Lester-Nett; her grandchildren, Olivia, Henry “Hank”, Hannah, Anthony “Tony”, and Victoria; her great-granddaughter, Raegan; and her dear cousin Sharon (Roland) Hoffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Lester, her brother, Dennis Deane, and her uncle George Heuvelman.
A memorial mass will be celebrated Friday, November 9 at 11am at St. Thomas the Apostle Cahtolic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL with lunch to follow. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 10 from 1pm to 4pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lola’s honor to Helping Paws, 2500 Harding Lane Woodstock, IL 60098.
