

Louis D. Mauro of Wilmington, Delaware, age 77, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2016 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Lou was predeceased by his father, Luigi Mauro; his mother, Rose Monico Mauro; sister, Julia Paraciani; brothers, Joseph Mauro and Daniel Mauro; and a son, Troy Mauro. He is survived by his sons, Louis D. Mauro Jr. of Ashburn, Va. Dean (Lynda) Mauro of Crystal Lake, IL. and Christopher Mauro of Wilmington, DE. He leaves grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mauro, Jennifer Mauro, Ashleigh Mauro, Ethan Mauro; niece,s Patricia Barron, Joanne Corbett, Gail Fidance, Carol Spotts; and nephew, Christopher Mauro.
Lou was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1958. Lou was proprietor in the barbering business serving generations of Wilmington families. He was a barber apprentice by age 8 at his uncle’s shop on Union Street and then advanced to Morton’s Barber Shop in the DuPont Building before partnering to open the original Shaving Mug on 10th Street in 1960. Lou expanded the Shaving Mug concept to 5 locations throughout Wilmington before finally closing out his career from 1996 to 2014 at the Men’s Club on King Street. Lou counted Delaware and the nation’s most esteemed families, civic and government leaders, artists and businessmen among clientele. Overall his passion to practice barbering 60 years was rooted in Lou’s sense of family for the Wilmington customers who walked in the door.
Lou gave generously to the community of Wilmington. He contributed regularly to the DFRC Hollydazzle benefit and developed a personal relationship donating time/services to residents of the Mary Campbell Center for Children and Adults with Disability. Lou aided in establishing the Delaware Barber Board where he served as President. He was active in matters of national and state legislation, petitioning to pass Delaware State House Bill 34 for Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction UCCJA. He had a passion for artistic renderings which led to a US Patent design, collecting and trading automobiles ( lifetime count 61 ), antique hunting, retiring Atlantic City blackjack dealers, and spending weekends with his boating friends on the C&D Canal. Above all, Lou was dedicated to seeing his family thrive. He especially enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren, vacationing with them to Italy, Aruba, Antigua, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, St. Maarten, Florida, Arizona, Virginia, New Orleans and Chicago where he finally retired. Lou will be lovingly missed by his family and friends and cherished in all memories.
Louis Mauro will be interred in private family service at the family mausoleum Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware.
A memorial service for Lou will be held at the Sheraton Suites Hotel, 422 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington, DE on September 16, 2016 from 4 – 6 pm .
