

Margaret J. Greenwald (nee Gavin) was born on August 26,1942. Margaret was a Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Aunt, and friend to many. She was born in Chicago and grew up in Edison Park, Illinois. She was a woman of deep faith, kindness, and devotion, well known and loved by many. Her unwavering commitment to her family and faith was the foundation of her life.
Margaret was a woman of love and devotion. She found her greatest joy in being a mother to her two sons and took immense pride in the family she built. She was a loving and dedicated mother, always offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. Her family was her greatest achievement, and she loved and cherished every moment she spent with them.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Margaret was a devoted member of her church, Saint Mary, where she spent much of her time in prayer and fellowship. She believed in the power of faith, kindness, and compassion, and she lived her life accordingly.
Margaret’s love for her family extended beyond her sons to her beloved siblings. She cherished every moment spent with them, always ensuring they felt supported and loved. Her nickname was Soonie and she was a mediator and a peacemaker, always bringing her siblings together. She would offer words of encouragement, and she loved nothing more than being able to spend time with them, she left a lasting mark on their lives.
Margaret's love for her family continued on through the next generation with her grandchildren. She always supported each and every one of them when it came to extracurricular activities, cheering them on. Her love for her grandchildren will forever carry on through their lives and they will remember her as a loving light and a source of endless love and support.
The family has chosen this Bible verse as a symbol of Margaret’s life: 2 Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." This verse reflects her unwavering devotion, strength, and steadfast faith. Margaret lived a life of love and service, always staying true to her beliefs and inspiring those around her with her kindness and dedication.
Margaret is remembered by her son Mark Greenwald and wife Megan Greenwald and son Jeffrey Greenwald and wife Michelle Greenwald. Margaret is survived by her siblings Maureen Saturnio, Thomas Gavin and wife Sandy Gavin, and Edwin Gavin and wife Janice Gavin. Her grandchildren Christian Greenwald, Madison Greenwald, Grace Greenwald, Gavin Greenwald, and Chace Greenwald. Her nieces and nephews Jason Saturnio, Joseph Saturnio, Sean Saturnio and his wife Sharon Saturnio and his children Christina Saturnio and Isaiah Saturnio. Margaret was preceded in death by her brother Michael Gavin and by her brother-in-law Evelino Saturnio.
There will be a full Catholic Mass in honor of Margaret's life at Saint Mary Catholic Church on Thursday April 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM, 10307 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, Illinois 60142. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon located in the church’s rectory.
