I was Michael's sixth grade teacher at West Elementary School in Crystal Lake. I remember him as an energetic young man who always had a big smile for everyone. Over the years I have bumped into Michael a few times and I was impressed with such a fine man he had grown to be. I was proud to be his teacher and blessed to have known him.
My condolences to his family...Hours fly, flowers die, but love stays.

Mike and I met when he was 17. Mike was such a kind, fun-loving person with an amazing smile. We had many good times together as teens. I loved spending time with Mike, his parents, and Lisa. His mom taught me how to cook pasta fazool and other Italian dishes. Anytime you walked into the Carparelli house, you would be expected to eat a meal! I learned how to eat pasta with a fork on a spoon (no knife) there. I am grateful to have known Mike all those years ago. Mike and his mom had a lot of similarities—both so kind-hearted, fun and loving. I pray they are reunited and smiling down on all of us.

I was very shocked to learn of this tragic news. I was Mike's neighbor on Floresta. I have many good memories of growing up together. Going fishing, going to the beach, riding bikes, playing sports and games, getting into trouble, we even had two stints at summer school together. He introduced me to Heavy Metal in the early 80's we talked about and listened to music often. His family was always good to my family they were one of the best neighbors I have ever known. We lost touch 20 years ago but, I will always remember those days growing up on Floresta.
