

Phyllis M. Johnson, age 93, longtime resident of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025 in Lakeway, Texas. She was born in September of 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Fred R. and Lillian C. (Johnson) Buettner.
As a youth in the early 1940’s, her family moved from Chicago’s Uptown North Park neighborhood to The Village of Lakewood, Illinois, bordering Crystal Lake, Illinois. It was at the private small parks, beaches, and boat docks along Crystal Lake's South Shore, most notably private Gate 22, that Phyllis developed an early affinity for swimming and nature, similarly shared by her father Fred. In 1950, she was runner-up for Miss McHenry County and graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School (CLCHS).
On June 19, 1954, she married William (Bill) W. Johnson in Crystal Lake, Illinois, building houses and making them homes in both Bull Valley and Crystal Lake, Illinois.
Preceded in death was her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, William (Bill) W. Johnson. Survivors include Jan (Ed) Ueckert of Austin, Texas; son William (Rebecca) Johnson of Fountain Hills, Arizona; four grandchildren, Blake (Ruth) Knapik of San Antonio, Texas, Brenna Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Maxwell Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Miles and Austen Knapik.
The services will be private. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park, Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis’s name to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 485 W Woodstock St, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
