Rino Bertacchi, 88, of Woodstock, Illinois passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022. Rino was born June 13, 1934 in the Tuscany region of Italy. He immigrated to the United States when he was 17 years old, settling on the far Northwest Side of Chicago, and learned carpentry at the Washburne Trade School. He soon began working as a foreman on many building jobs in the Chicago area. He started his own company in 1963, building bungalows in Chicago. Under Rino’s energetic leadership, the company flourished.
Rino had a long and prestigious career as a custom home builder, operating Rino Builders Inc. for decades. He built hundreds of homes in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, with his trademark block “R” set in stone in the outside walls. Rino Builders received many prestigious awards from the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago and the Parade of Homes. Rino was well respected throughout Chicagoland and he and his homes were featured in multiple articles by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Daily Herald and Northwest Herald.
In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his abundant harvest of vegetables with neighbors, friends, and family. He loved to dance, travel, bird watch, and tell stories about his life in Italy. Above all things, his work brought him the most joy. Rino was generous, kind-hearted and quick to give compliments to all people he interacted with.
He is survived by his common-law wife Maria Curry; daughter Gloria Kenney, and son John (Mary Jo) Bertacchi; step children Christopher (Amy) Curry and Jennifer (Matthew) Rumps; 8 grandchildren; and sister Mary.
