He was born April 25, 1923 in Cary, Illinois to Edward G. and Rose M. (Homola) Anderson. He married the love of his life, Ruth M. Popp on February 14, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. God blessed them with 56 wonderful years of marriage. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Sloat DE245. In his younger years he enjoyed both playing baseball and coaching his sons in Little League. He was a Cubs fan, enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting, never missed watching Wheel of Fortune, and played solitaire nightly. He was an extremely loving husband, an awesome father, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children; Randy (Jennifer) Anderson, Rickey Anderson, Roxann (Casey) Voris, Robyn (David Carlin) Anderson, Rochelle (Michael) Smeja, grandchildren; Timothy (Jennifer), Danielle (Jereme), Tana (Scott), Stephanie, Rachel, Rebecca, Rock, Lexie, great-grandchildren; Jacob, Maddie, Connor, Lucas, Chloe, Reichen, Radic, Owen, Irely, brother Jack Anderson, sister Gerri Burhop, and brother in law Lee Popp.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruthie.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, December 18 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue from 10 am until the 11 am service on Wednesday, December 19 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake.
Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Veterans Assistance of McHenry County, 667 Ware Rd. Woodstock.
