Robert James Dow

August 26, 1943 – March 25, 2026
Obituary of Robert James Dow
IN THE CARE OF

Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home

Robert James "Bob" Dow, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Born on August 26, 1943, in Madison, Wisconsin, Bob lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.

Bob graduated from Barrington High School before continuing his education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He went on to build an impressive career as a certified public accountant that spanned over 50 years. Initially working in downtown Chicago, Bob later founded his own firm, Dow, Wood & Company, in Barrington in 1989. The firm eventually settled into its permanent home on Walkup Road in Crystal Lake. His commitment to his profession and entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting impact on the community he served.

A lifelong golf enthusiast, Bob was a beloved member of the Crystal Lake Country Club for nearly five decades. His passion for the game extended beyond playing; he also contributed to the club’s success by serving on its board of directors. Golf was not just a pastime for Bob but a way to connect with friends and create cherished memories.

Bob was deeply loved by his wife of 50 years, Vicki Dow; his three daughters, Kristin Anderson, Kelly Langan (John), and Katy Petrin (Scott); and his four grandchildren—Sydney, Gavin, Braden, and Annie. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and James Dow, as well as his brother Bill Dow. Known for his humor and hard-working nature, Bob was admired by all who knew him. His warmth and good-natured personality endeared him to family members and friends alike.

Bob’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and dedication. He will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him or sharing a round of golf with him over the years.

May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.

In honor of Bob’s memory, the family welcomes donations to the Evans Scholars Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Glenview, Illinois that provides college scholarships to golf caddies.
