Crystal Lake--Ruth Lash, 88, a long time Crystal Lake and Cary resident passed away Thursday, October 27th, 2011. She was born, in Chicago, on December 25th, 1922 to Ella (Piehl) and Harry Hillard Klein. She was the third of four daughters.
As a member of the Greatest Generation, she endured difficult times during the depression and WWII. Ruth was 11 years old when her mother passed away. Coming from little and having lost much at a young age, this helped shape her into a resilient and generous spirit. She hated to see suffering of any form in both humans and animals. She was an extremely giving and generous human being who always contributed to numerous charities. At Christmas, she would purchase bags of toys for needy children. A tender soul with a warm heart, she always had time for her family and friends. Ruth was known for her big hugs and warm smile, which will forever be remembered and tremendously missed.
In Chicago, on January 18, 1941 she married Bud Lash. They lived in what is now Wrigleyville and raised their only child, Trish. In 1960 Ruth and her family moved from Chicago in search of a suburban lifestyle. They settled in McHenry County, which they called home for the rest of their lives.
Ruth was an involved grandma, a devoted and nurturing wife, and loving mother and mother-in-law. She dedicated her life to her husband and daughter. As her family grew, that same dedication encompassed each new member. She was an energetic and loving grandma, who loved to spend as much time as possible with her two grandchildren, and later in life, with her three great-grand children. She will be remembered for her compassionate and engaging personality. With everyone in her life, Ruth always had time to listen; she always took care of everyone around her.
As a homemaker, she took pride in her home and hosting others in her home. Her hobbies included, keeping up to date on politics, pop culture, and attending her longstanding weekly hair appointment.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ruth (Robert) Laureys of Crystal Lake; two grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie), Allison Ruth (Rich); three great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley; and three nephews and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her wonderful husband of nearly sixty-eight - years, Bud; and two sisters, Charlotte and Ellen.
