He was born March 26, 1933 in Wausau, Wisconsin and lived in Crystal Lake and Cary for more than 50 years. He was married to Kay Marie Hackman from 1958 until her death in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1955-1957.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union, and worked for Anderson & Parr, Jacoby Brothers, and retired from Foster Brothers. He volunteered his time and talents at Immanuel Lutheran Church while working at Rehberg Construction. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his five children, Tammy (Paul) Fox, Sandra Abrath, Linda (Angelo) Cozzola, Cynthia (Patrick) Paxson, William Abrath Jr.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Henry Abrath, Catherine Thompson, Betty (Clarence) Krause, Donald Abrath, and Joyce (Robert) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his two infant daughters; and his five brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, Feb. 16 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue from 10am to 11am on Friday, Feb. 17 at the funeral home, with a service at 11am to celebrate his life.
Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.
