Douglas is survived by his beloved wife, Felita Smith; his son: Tyler Smith (Lorna); his daughters: Nikki Hawkins (Kerry), Danielle Terry (Bradley), Tiffany Pappas; his grandchildren: Brittany Hawkins, Meghan Golson (Drew), Savannah Welborn (Jason), Kirsten Hawkins, Braidy Terry, Sawyer Terry, Isabella Pappas, and Harrison Pappas: his 5 great grandchildren: Jude, Jackson, Amelia, Hamilton, and Samuel; his brother: Gerald Smith (Pat); his sister-in-law: Helen Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Veola B. Smith; his brothers Charles Smith and Glenn Smith (Carolyn): his sisters Earlene Smith Alexander, Barbara Ann Smith Nelson, an Infant Sister; and his son-in-law: Hunter Pappas.
Doug loved sports, especially Alabama Football. He was an All Around Athlete at Tanner High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He pitched the first undefeated season in history for the Tanner Rattlers. He graduated from Tanner High in 1966. He loved to coach and umpire baseball throughout his life. Doug had a big heart and loved to make everyone laugh. Doug owned and operated a Texaco Store in Cullman for many years. He was a devoted family man and active member at Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
A celebration of life visitation for Douglas will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 808 Co. Rd 1133, Cullman, AL 35057, followed by a celebration of life funeral service at 2:00 PM. Interment is at Bethlehem West Cemetery.
