Funeral services for Mr. Dwight “Mac” McSwain will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2 pm from First Baptist Church of Cullman, Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating, burial will follow at Cullman City Cemetery. Moss-Service Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Judd Branch, Kaleb McSwain, Joe Robertson, Heath Mauldin, Corey Britton and Gus Lowery.
Mr. McSwain passed away Sunday at his daughter’s residence. He was born in Cullman, February 5, 1930 to parents Arthur and Lula Garner McSwain. He became a Christian and spent his life walking with Christ. He was active in the Cullman Quarterback Club for over thirty years. He served on the Cullman City Board of Education for four years. Mac served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. His service was in military intelligence and he was honorably discharged with the rank of master sergeant. After returning home he attended St. Bernard College graduating in 1959 with a BS in accounting. (This was the first year for a four year college). He served as treasurer at North Side Baptist Church for 27 years, this was his Christian Ministry. He loved God and his family. Mac served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church and was a long time member of Gideons International. He was in the automobile business for over thirty five years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Sandy Michelle McSwain, a brother; Gerald McSwain, three sisters; Delayn Graves, Shirley Cruce and Iva Jean Carden.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years; Melba Mann McSwain, daughter; Vicki (David) Branch, son Mitch (Dorothy) McSwain, five grandchildren; Nicole Branch (Joe) Robertson, Roxanne Branch (Heath) Mauldin, Judd (Jennifer) Branch, Megan McSwain (Corey) Britton and Kaleb McSwain, a brother; Mancel (Betty) McSwain and a sister; Glenda Bone.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Cullman building fund, 501 2nd. Ave. SW, Cullman, AL 35055 or Gideons International, PO Box 583, Cullman, AL 35056. Visitation will be Tuesday 12-2 pm at the church.
