
Ella Mae Green Hudson, 91, passed peacefully from this life at her home called Whetstone Creek near Logan Alabama on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Cullman at 320 3rd Ave SE., on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at 12 p.m. Funeral services to follow at
1:30 p.m. with Pastor Delbert Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Buttermilk Road near Cordova/Jasper Alabama.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Fowler Hudson.; her parents, Loyd Crawford Green and Ollie Abel Green: her sister; Audra Green Black and her brothers Rufus A. Green and Virgil A. Green. Brothers-in-law; Elmer, Burey, Jack and Norman Hudson and James Emmett Black, Sr. Sisters-in-law;
Mildred Green, Pernie Hudson Olsen, Callie Barton Twilley, and Ruth Viet.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Betty Grice Green, Lenear Hudson Stewart Jones and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was more of a beloved mother figure than just an aunt.
Born at home on the family farm in Union Chapel, near Jasper Alabama, Ella Mae was the daughter of the late Loyd Crawford and Ollie (Abel) Green. Ella Mae grew up and attended school at Union Chapel Elementary and graduated from Walker County High School in 1943. Ella Mae attended and graduated in 1945 from Walker College. As a young, college graduate, Ella Mae worked at the Walker County Court House in Jasper Alabama.
Soon, she met the love of her life, her husband Maurice whom she married on February 16, 1947 spending 63 wonderful years with her soul mate. Ella Mae accompanied him to Georgia and other states, settling in Dallas Texas where he pursed his love of golf as a professional golfer and owner of several businesses. Both Ella Mae and Maurice were realtors in Dallas as well. Maurice and Ella Mae returned to Alabama in 1976 to their beloved Whetstone Creek
Farm near Cullman where they bought land and built Ella Mae’s dream home. Both were members of the First United Methodist Church of Cullman. Ella Mae enjoyed being a homemaker and hostess, having hosted book clubs, Bible studies and prayer groups at her home in various cities where they lived. Ella Mae had numerous hobbies that included sewing, quilting, photography, painting, gardening & canning. Having no children of her own, Ella Mae was a second mom
to the children of her siblings and loved them all dearly.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the nurses and caregivers who took such good care of Ella Mae during her final years, especially
Jackie Wylie, Julia Anderson and Sheila Causewell. A special "thank you" to neighbors, Tony and Terry Baker. The family is very fortunate that we shared so
many wonderful years with our beloved Ella Mae. We are thankful for the fullness and richness of the long life with which she was blessed, and for all the lives
that she has touched. We will all miss you, Ella Mae - we love you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite Veteran’s charity in honor of Ella Mae and Maurice Hudson.
