Gertrude Maria Townsend

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Maria Townsend, age 88 of Cullman will be Friday, October 3 2014.at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fr. Patrick Egan, O.S.B. officiating, burial will follow at a later date at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL. Moss-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Townsend passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at CRMC. She was born December 29, 1925 in Ambridge, PA to her parents Xavier and Valentina Moniewska Ostaszewski. She worked for the phone company as a telephone operator in her early adult years and then as a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; John J. Townsend and a son; William Townsend.

Survivors include four daughters; Sarah (James) Cornett, Karen (Robert) Richard, Edna Townsend and Linda (Robert) Bean, three sons; John S. (Jeannette) Townsend, Harold J. (Laura) Townsend and George M. (Lesa) Townsend, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 – 7:25pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary at 7:30.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
