Rev. Patterson died Thursday, June 2, at Woodland Village Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Cullman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He never missed a chance to share the stories of his military experiences and always exuded a love for his country. Rev. Patterson was called to ministry in 1964. He dedicated his life to serving God. He served as a pastor for Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church, East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Greens Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After retiring from the ministry, he returned home to Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He exhibited a great love for God and his family. His life was a testimony of a true man of God. The measure of a man is evident in what he accomplishes and what he leaves behind, but the true measure of a man is how much he is missed when he leaves this earth. Henry Grady Patterson will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Boyd Patterson; his parents, Henry and Dora Shaw Patterson; four brothers, Curtis, Gladis, Amos and Bertis; three sisters, Doris Smith, Bertha Ellard and Lula Mae Spiegle; and two grandsons, Kerry and Kevin Patterson.
Survivors include his son, Richard (Doris) Patterson; grandchildren, Jill (Brian) Bradberry, Jenny (Phillip) Gay and David (Brooke) Patterson; nine great-grandchildren, Will, Kate and Reid Bradberry, Carter, Preston and Grayson Gay and Henry, Grant and Grace Patterson; and his special friends, the residents and staff of Woodland Haus.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Woodland Haus for their love and care over the past three years. Thanks also to the fourth-floor nurses and staff at CRMC, Woodland Village Nursing Home, Dr. Mike Hall and Dr. Mir Varquez.
