Janet Marie Woods

December 8, 1958October 9, 2020

A Memorial Graveside service will be on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Springs Cemetery for Janet Marie Woods, 61, of Cullman, who passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at her residence. Bro. Dudley Brock will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Moss Service Funeral Home. Janet dedicated her life to fitness and helping others achieve their personal fitness goals. She was the owner of Jan’s Fitness for 36 years and assisted her clients as a personal trainer for over 20 years. Her clients were like family to her and selflessly made herself available to them at all times. She found joy in seeing them accomplish their goals. Jan’s Fitness was honored to be named The Cullman Times “Best Professional Weight Loss Center” multiple times over the years. When she wasn’t at her fitness center, she was riding in her convertible, feeling the wind in her face, or relaxing at her home on the lake. She loved her family more than anything, especially her only granddaughter, Lily. She will be greatly missed by all. Preceding her in death was her father, Ellie “Ellis” C. Johnson. Survivors include her son, Adam (Christine) Woods of Gainesville, FL.; granddaughter, Lily Woods, mother and stepfather, Patricia and Frank Collins of Vinemont, AL. and brothers: Terry Paul Johnson of Kenedy, TX. And Byron (Carolyn) Johnson of Blountsville, AL. Condolences and fond memories may be shared with the family at mossservicefh.com

I'm so sorry to hear this, my prayers are with you all. Janet was always such a sweet girl in high school and throughout her life I got to see what a great job she has done in her career. She knew how to motivate one & honestly cared about each persons goal in fitness as well as personal lives . Her programs were challenging & she was tough, no doubt she will be greatly missed. God bless you all

Jan and I were best of friends during high school, so I grew to know her pretty well during that time. I often would walk the back roads from Hanceville to her home in Johnson’s Crossing just to spend time with her. I remember her joy of people, love for her family, energy for life, and having a pet chick.
As Pat mentioned we were involved in a car accident that left us with a few knots and bruises, the two of us played hoodie from school a few times during our senior year when it wouldn’t really matter if we didn’t attended during the time we were away, we signed up for Miss Enhancer and we each bought the, in my opinion now, ugliest dresses for the competition; they were the same but her’s was green and mine was yellow. She ran another year and placed. I gave up because I didn’t stand a chance when having her to compete against. After graduation we grew apart when I moved to another state, but she has always had a special place in my heart that is now empty.
Many prayers going out to God for the family that she loved with her entire being. Love you Jan.

Jan was my trainer many years ago. She instilled and practiced self-discipline concerning taking care of ourselves sensibly. She always mentioned her son Adam during our sessions together as he was so special to her. She never forgot a friend or your name. She was very professional yet down-to-earth with you. She made you a better person by her life. I extend one of my favorite Psalms, Psalm 100.

I owe so much to this precious lady. Jan was my trainer for about 5 years. She gave me hope, encouragement, confidence, and taught me self discipline. I enjoyed hearing stories of her granddaughter, whom she adored. Jan always took the time to ask me about my son and his golf. You could ask her anything and her advice was always sincere. I always looked forward to going to the gym to see Jan’s smiling face, the fellowship with others, and the workouts. It was more than just a fitness center, and I am so blessed that I was able to have Jan in my life. I am going to truly miss Jan! Prayers for her family.
