

Lloyd Carl Norrell, (92), of Cullman, Alabama passed away on September 20, 2014. Survivors include two nieces, Linda Norrell Meads of New Bern , North Carolina, Rosemary Marcus of Destin, Florida; seven nephews, Hugh Battle of Melrose, Florida David Battle of Greensboro, NC, Bill Preston, Jr. of Ft Walton, Florida, Charles Norrell of Titus, Alabama, Robert Norrell of Baltimore, Maryland, , Johnny Mercer of Panama City Florida, George Mercer of Panama City, Florida; 20 great nieces and nephews; and 18 great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Vann Norrell and his parents, W. E. and Lucy Allison Norrell; six sisters; two brothers and two nephews.
Carl Norrell was born in 1922 near Dothan, Alabama to father, W. E. Norrell and mother, Lucy Allison Norrell. He is the eighth of nine children. He graduated from Midland City High School in 1944 and was active in football, baseball and basketball. He attended Auburn University from 1941 until 1943. In 1943 he joined the army and attended Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, OK. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and promoted to First Lieutenant and subsequently served overseas, including the occupation of Japan. He returned to Auburn University and graduated from the School of Agriculture in 1947. He worked with Gold Kist in Atlanta and then moved to Cullman in 1950 as manager of the local Gold Kist office.
Mr. Norrell married Evelyn Vann Ponder in 1952. He entered the automobile business in 1968 as Cullman’s Chrysler dealer. He was co-owner of Norrell Fields Dodge Chrysler Plymouth until he retired in 1991.
He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; active member of the Kiwanis Club for 56 years; City IDB member; City Planning Commission; longtime member of Cullman Elks Lodge, and served several terms as member of Board of Directors of Cullman County Chamber of Commerce.
Visitation will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday, September 24th. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s on Thursday, September 25th at 1:00PM with interment following at Cullman City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 513 4th Avenue SE, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
Carl’s request that any present or past members of the Cullman Kiwanis Club, Cullman Elk’s Lodge or the City Industrial Development Board be honored as Honorary pallbearers.
