Mary Elizabeth Long McConatha of Cullman died July 22, 2022 at her home. A memorial service for Mary will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1:00 at Moss Service of Cullman with Reverend Lyle Holland of Cullman First United Methodist Church officiating. The family will greet guests immediately following the memorial. A private interment will be held later.
Her survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Theresa McConatha, sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Long and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Larry McConatha, her parents, Sam J. and Lillian Letson Long, her brother, Dr. John M Long and her brother, Sam James Long, Jr.
Mary as well as a significant group of her family dedicated themselves to the education field. She spent 30+ years helping young people improve their life by figuring out and showing them how to enjoy learning. Most of those years were spent teaching English, Economics and Democracy. Typically, not everyone’s favorite subjects, she was able to make it fun and get the group involved. She will be missed by many.
