Nellie Agnes Reynolds Johnson went to heaven on June 23, 2015. She was born in Marshall county to Penton Tolen Reynolds and Minnie Lee Leak Reynolds on May 17, 1925. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was the 6th of eleven siblings and is survived by one sister, Helen Allen.
Agnes lived in Arab all her life until she married Clifford Johnson in 1949 and moved to Cullman County. She and Clifford enjoyed a long and happy life together for 65 years. They set a wonderful example of a Christian marriage and reared three daughters together. They are Karen (Jim) Munger, Kathy (Dennis) Tucker, and Jean (Mike) Arrowood. Her daughters learned to be strong Christian women by watching their mother’s Godly example.
She adored her 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and was always there to give a hug or word of encouragement and to be a positive influence in their lives. Grandchildren are: Jennifer (Brian) Gillispie, Michael Tucker, Amanda Tucker, Meghan (Brint) Roden, Lindsey (Chris) Lamm and Bryan Arrowood.
Great grandchildren are: Connor Gillispie, Cassidy Gillispie, Makenzie Gillispie, Henry Gillispie, Avery Roden, Addie Tate Lamm, and soon to be born Ethen Roden. Her family will miss their Mama and Granny greatly.
Agnes will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews that she loved.
Agnes worked for many years as a nursing assistant, first for a local doctor in Arab and later at Cullman Hospital from where she retired. Through the years numerous people have commented about her kind and caring ways while tending to her patients.
She was an active member of East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 50 years and was always willing to serve wherever needed. She loved her church family and even after her health prevented her from attending church services regularly, she was always interested in the welfare of members. The family would like to thank the East Point C.P. Church congregation for their prayers, visits and concerns during this difficult time and also Rev. Phil Nickles and Rev. Hughlen Murphree for their visits and comforting words.
The family wants to thank her caregivers: Lisa Mariano, DeLana Coley, Robyn Tucker, Naomi Hilton, and Kristen Falkner for their love and care for her. They also want to express their gratitude to the nurses of Comfort Care Hospice for helping make her last days more comfortable.
Visitation for Agnes will be Thursday June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home. She will lie-in-state at East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Friday June 26 from 1 to 2 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 2:00. Interment will be at Cullman City Cemetery.
