

Funeral services for Shirley Juan (Butler) Humiston 76, of Cullman Alabama,(AL) will be Monday, September 8, 2014 at Cullman First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. The family will receive friends for visitation at Moss-Service Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at the Cullman City Cemetery. Shirley passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at her home in Cullman, AL.
She was born on March 23, 1938 in Vinemont AL. She attended Vinemont Junior High School and graduated from Springfield High School in Akron, Ohio. She was active in the family appliance business in Akron, Ohio for 29 years. Shirley was involved in her church in Suffield, Ohio and was a member of the Broccoli Bells group who entertained senior organizations in the area. Shirley enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard with her flowers and vegetable garden. She moved to Arizona with her husband Jim in 1990 and was a volunteer at the local hospital and was also on the election board for the city of Mesa. She also resided in Amana, Iowa and was a member of Cloverridge United Methodist Church. Shirley moved to Richardson, Texas in 2001 and then retired in Cullman, AL in 2003 where she became a member of Cullman First United Methodist Church and the Horizon Sunday school class. She loved people and for those that knew her they will remember her smile and her laugh. Shirley loved animals, especially her beloved cats Biscuit and Bisquick, as well as her two grand-dogs Murphy and Beaumont.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father Glen A. Butler and mother Alice R. Butler. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim and their three sons James Humiston Jr. (Bonnie) of Wadsworth, Ohio; Jeffrey Humiston of New Port Richey, Florida; and Jerald Humiston of Akron, Ohio. Additionally, she leaves her brother Jimmie Butler (Jackie) of Canton, Ohio and her sister-in-law Nanci Hansen of Suffield, Ohio. Shirley loved her six grandchildren, Christina Sponseller (Eric) of Akron, Ohio; James Humiston III of Columbus, Ohio; Erica Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina; Emily and Zachary Humiston of Wadsworth, Ohio and her three great-grandchildren Layne and Liam Sponseller; and Lucinda Humiston. Shirley will be missed by many other family members and friends.
