Obituary of Adelaide V. Menefee
Adelaide Virginia Menefee, affectionately known as “Skinny” was born on November 7, 1931, to the late Walter A. Robinson and Mertha D. Carpenter. Virgnia attended Mount Zion Baptist Church in Atlanthus, VA and was baptized at a early age. She received her education from the George Washington Carver School in Culpeper, VA. In her adult life she married Clifford H. Menefee, Sr. During her career Virginia was the cook for several promient families in the Washington DC area. In 1979 she started working for Dr. Linda Daniels. One of her duties and the one that gave her the most joy, was the caring for and raising of Jed. The proudest moment in her life was the day Jed married Jill. Having him on her arm escorting her to her seat was a moment she would cherish forever. Virginia worked for the family, our new family, for over 3 decades. Everywhere we went she would announce to anyone she came in contact with that “ I work for Dr. Linda Daniels” Im sure that once she arrives in paradise her first words will be “ I worked for Dr. Linda Daniels” A few other passions of Virgina were cooking, having someone else to rearrange her furniture (while she gave directions), riding her lawn mower (even when her grass didn’t need cutting) and chatting on the telephone with her family and friends. You had to talk fast because when she was done with the conversation, the dial tone was the next sound you’d hear, whether you were finished talking or not. On February 28, 2019, Virginia went into eternal rest at her home with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford H. Menefee, Sr., sisters Etta Powell and Ruth Robinson, a brother, Edward Robinson, great aunt, Virginia Davis, two step-children, Clifford Menefee, Jr. and Jacqulyn Tibbs, and one nephew, Donald Robinson, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bettie Kenny (Eric), a son, Walter Robinson, Sr. (Linda), three step-children, Leroy Menefee (Paula), Barbara Ann Dunn (Joe), and Michael Orange (Avis). Six grandchildren, Andrelle Burke (Anthony), Willie Lacey III (Lola), Walter Robinson Jr., Lamar Robinson, Adelaide and Eloise Davies. Seven great-grandchildren, Ikea (Rolando), Deandre, Nick, Nygeria, Sierra, Layla, and Amerrah. Eight great great-grandchildren, Keadra, Zaleah, Saquan, Zurielle, Joel, Journei, Nariyah, and Aylani. A special niece, Shirley Hogan and three special nephews, Zach, Gary, and Eric Robinson and many others who loved her. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in the Chapel of the Clore-English Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
