

Andy is preceded in death by his wife Myrtie, son Doug, parents, stepfather, and siblings.
In 1942, Andy joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 15, and headed to the South Pacific to fight in World War II after finishing bootcamp, specializing in a 50-caliber machine gunner in Paris Island, SC., seeing combat before he turned 16. A good Marine always, he always followed orders.
Andy returned to Virginia in 1946, meeting the love of his life Myrtie Brookman. After courting her for a few years they got married , and were married for 65 years. Having one son Douglas Lee Smith.
Andy started working at Rochester Rope Company, that is now Tyco in Culpeper and worked there for Rochester 46 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he went to work for Matt’s Ace Hardware, now known as Gary's Ace Hardware, and ran Smith’s Screen and Glass for over 20 years and retiring a second time at 86.
Andy considered anyone he saw more than once, a friend. His favorite greetings were, “Hello young man!”, “Hello young lady!”, or “Hello friend!.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia with a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery, New Grounds with military honors provided by VFW Post 2524.
