

On Sunday night, April 12th 2015, Benjamin Edward Long, Culpeper, VA, age 24, departed this life. He is survived by his loving parents, Edward Benjamin Long and Gloria Inskeep Long, and his little brother, Marshall James Long. He had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, as well as a countless number of people whose lives he touched. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall E. Long Jr. and by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Inskeep.
Ben was a graduate of the 2008 class of Culpeper County High School and the 2013 class of Old Dominion University. Ben was an early recipient of the Good Samaritan Award given by the Culpeper United Methodist Church. He was an Eagle Scout of Troop 198 in Culpeper, VA, a member of the Culpeper County High School Marching Band, and the original, first member of the Old Dominion University Marching Monarchs. Ben enjoyed baseball, starting with teeball up through senior league. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, offroading, and camping. Ben loved the beaches of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, but his true love was the land that he grew up on: the family farm at Cedar Mountain. He always had a natural talent for working with his hands, a passion that he used before his high school graduation and beyond his college graduation.
A service celebrating Ben’s life will be held on Friday, April 24th 2015 at Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper. There will be a gathering at 1 pm for family and friends with a celebration service at 2 pm followed by food and refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church. Those wishing to bring the family food are encouraged to bring it to the service for everyone to enjoy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, VA 22701; Boy Scout Troop 198, 1233 Oaklawn Drive; or to the family to benefit the Ben Long "Living the Dream" campaign for prevention and to raise awareness for the community, so that no more families need to suffer.
