Obituary of Charles J Bartola
Our beloved father Charles J. Bartola passed away on April 14, 2024, at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was 93 years old. He is survived by his daughters Roseanne Bartola, Mary Payne, and Ellen Bartola and their husbands John Dacus, Herman Payne, and Matthew Grove; his sister Jo Ann Clark; brother -in-law Bernard Albrecht and his wife Betty Albrecht. Charles was a grandfather to Jason Matthews, Mary Matthews (wife of Jason), Charles Payne, Christopher Payne, and Ian Grove. He was great-grandfather to Mya Matthews, Logan Matthews, and Jackson Payne. Charles was born in New York City, NY, on January 23,1931. From an early age he had a lifelong passion for flying and aviation. This shaped his hobbies of building model airplanes, his career with Republic Aviation and with Grumman Aerospace where he worked on cutting edge space programs like the Apollo Program, Shuttle, and Space Station. He continued his passion later in life through flying his own planes and being a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 63 years, Bernadette Jean Bartola, brother Romeo John Bartola, sister-in-law Barbara Mokszycki, brother-in-law Michael Mokszycki, brother-in-law Stephen W. Clark and grandson Bradley Belcher. A viewing will be held at 11190 James Monroe Hwy, Culpeper, VA 2270 on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at his church, Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Catholic Church, 692 Lonnie Burke Rd, Madison, VA 22727 on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 10:30am. A reception is to be held at his home in Madison, VA. All friends and family are welcome. Flowers are welcome or a donation in lieu of flowers can be made in his name to the giver’s preferred charity.
